TrueCrypt is a real-time, automatic and transparent encryption system. It creates encrypted containers mounted within a file by utilizing available drive space. Multiple encrypted containers are possible which provides for varying levels of plausible deniability.
Plausible deniability permits you to hide your most secret data within an encrypted container buried inside an encrypted container. Only YOU ever know of the existence of these sub-containers.
While the TrueCrypt application can be identified from the "launcher" executable, the contents of the encrypted file (including sub-containers) is unreadable without the proper pass keys. In fact, TrueCrypt containers appear as corrupted data. It is impossible to identify the contents of an encrypted container.
Any type of data can be stored within an encrypted container including applications, pictures, videos, files, documents, audio and more. Anything you would normally run from or store on your computer can be hidden within an encrypted container.
